There is no motorized transportation on the Gili Islands. Although the islands are small there is lots to explore. Hiring a bicycle is the perfect way to see the island, and also bring back memories of your childhood…when was the last time you hopped on a bike! Take advantage of the numerous bike rental shops in close proximity to Scallywags. On Gili Air you can rent bikes from Scallywags
Both Gili Trawangan and Gili Air boast amazing snorkelling. You can often see sleeping turtles in the shallow reefs not far from shore. Masks and fins are available from Scallywags Dive Shop on Gili T and Gili Air.
Whether it is your first time blowing bubbles underwater, or you are a seasoned scuba diver, the Gili Islands is the perfect place to dive. and who better to go diving with than Scallywags own dive shop, Scallywag Divers! Located in Gili Air, next door to Scallywags Beach Club, Scallywag Divers is a PADI dive centre and have daily dive trips to suit everyone. Beginner divers can do a 1-day introduction course (DSD), or take the full PADI Open Water Course. Courses start on a daily basis and can be taken in many languages. Glass bottom boat hire
If getting in the water is not your cup of tea, you can still see what it has to offer, whilst staying dry. The glass bottom boats take you over the reefs, where you can see the beautiful colours of the coral, the schools of fish, and the turtles slowly munching on the algae.
Horse Riding (Gili Trawanagan only)
With no cars to worry about, and plenty of quiet tracks to explore Gili Trawanagan is a great place to go horse riding. Stud Stables (0819 0747 0534) have well-trained horses and experienced staff who can arrange rides for beginners through to the experienced rider.
Situated in Lombok, the Lombok Golf Kosaido Country Club is an 18-hole championship course. There are spectacular views of Mount Rinjani from some holes, and the Gili Islands from the others. The staff at Scallywags can arrange for transportation from the islands to the golf course. Please contact us for further information.
Surfing (Gili Trawangan only)
We know that surfers don’t like to give away the secrets of where the surf spots are, but we will let you in on a little secret. Gili Trawangan has waves! It is a fast right-hander, and it can really pump when the conditions are right. It is a reef break, so booties can come in handy. Surfboards can be rented just in front of the break. Gili Meno and Gili Air also have some waves, but these are accessible only by boat.
Why not get even more relaxed on your holiday and go to a yoga class. There are yoga studios in both Gili Trawangan and Gili Air, and have a range of yoga styles on offer, such as hatha, vinyasa. There are both morning and evening classes available and suit beginners to the more advanced yoga practitioner.
